Toledo History Museum

Here is meeting information for the Toledo History Museum. They have a membership meeting coming up and I wanted to help get the word out. They have a lot of great plans in the works for the project and I hope you go and learn more. I cannot go because I have a parking lot party to go to in Findlay for the Camp Fire USA Teen Center. I will be there though, oneday, I promise.
If you want more information about the Toledo History Museum e-mail Donna Christian at the contact info below. I am sure they will provide you with meeting minutes and official brochures and organization information.

Camp Miakonda, Toledo's nationally historic Boy Scout camp, will be explored through its 90 years at the Toledo History Museum quarterly public meeting by Ken Dixon, local history story teller and author ["Nothing Personal, Just Business"]. His theme will be "the hills are alive with the sound of memories," derived from the buglers call from the crow's nest up the camp flag pole that was once the main mast from a Great Lakes freighter, and from many remarkable events over the century.

Miakonda is a native American word for crescent moon. The 1917 original building still stands. The swimming pool was the worlds largest spring fed pool, 480 feet long holding over a million gallons of spring water. It was constructed by damming a ravine. Many buildings, like the tree houses, were constructed by the Works Progress Administration, which employed citizens to build culturally valuable lasting works during the Great Depression.

Find out a great deal more of remarkable importance and share your special memories Tuesday evening, May 29, at Sanger Branch Library at 7:30 pm after the 7pm business meeting.
